A continuation of Ear on Chicago, but broadcast on WMAQ radio (at the time an NBC affiliate), City in Sound followed the same Chicago focus and half-hour documentary style, running for 53 episodes between March 1958 and March 1959—all mono recordings of which were captured at 7½ ips on Scotch brand seven-inch open reel tapes, and are currently housed in the IIT Archives. Again based on archival evidence, we know this series was produced by IIT radio-television staff, Donald P. Anderson, and narrated by early Chicago radio and television newscaster, Jack Angell. Having digitized two reels from this series, we know that these recordings, as opposed to those comprising our Ear on Chicago collection, are likely the very copies aired on WMAQ radio, as they contain a formal introduction and conclusion.
