Abstract:
Explore the range of design concepts that integrate photovoltaic solar panels, PEM fuel cells and electrolyzer, hydrogen storage and advanced batteries to offer local independent power generation system capabilities with a connection to a regional power network grid. This project involves the design, development, installation and remote monitoring via the Internet of an electronic billboard system on the Main Campus. The project also encompasses a variety of non-technical issues, including permitting, operating protocol, policy and procedures, aesthetic appearance, public relations and marketing. Several IPRO teams have advanced this project to the stages of installation, integration of fuel cells and related technology, performance data gathering and marketing. The current phase of the project will involve completing the installation and testing of a complete hybrid system. Its operational characteristics will be documented; and the environmental, energy and economic benefits will be analyzed.
